GTRV -similar amenities to Westfalia. High-end van with parts affordable and available. Quiet, easy to drive. Reliable 3.3 litre V6 engine with 252,500 km expected life of 400,000 km. Starts and runs very smoothly. 10.2 l/100 km at 110 km/hr. Easy to boondock with top down. In poptop, opening skylight, 3 screens, double bed. Rear seat makes double bed. Electric fridge and 3 lights on deep cycle battery, 2-burner propane stove and furnace, sink with clean tank. Various cupboards. Table. Right seat rotates to face back, left seat rotates 90. Power steering, brakes, windows, and locks, cruise control. Tinted windows, curtains. Air conditioning. Roof rack. Purchased April 2019 by parents in their 80s who sold their 84 Westfalia and purchased this van as easier, quiet to drive. Thought it would be their last van and decided to do extensive servicing to last. Over $6000 in repairs. Recently bought a newer GTRV. New front brakes, pads, rotors (and rear brakes are in good shape). Tires in good condition with lovely new hub caps. New brake master cylinder/ABS unit. New transmission solenoid block and auto shutdown relay (transmission good). New fuel injector seals and manifold gasket. Exhaust good. New water pump. New windshield washer pump. Replaced axle shaft seal on left, timing cover gasket, engine timing gasket, and oil pan gasket. Air conditioning serviced. New oil pressure gauge switch. New 12V outlet. Also done interior painting of cabinets, deep cleaning in and out and new curtain rods and front seat covers. This van is clean! There has been over $18,000 and lots of elbow grease put into this van since purchase this spring. What hasn't been done and could be if desired: transmission occasionally stays shifted down but the transmission is good and other repairs have been completed. May need a solenoid. No radio but wiring and speakers exist -an old rear stereo would need to be disconnected, suspension is a bit soft but not urgent, one dent on right front panel (estimate to repair $400) and rust on frame under sliding door (estimate to repair $800), the spare tire hoist was removed as it didn't work (common problem with vans) and the plan was to have a welded holder made by Seeco (estimate $200). It's a sweet little van, cozy and comfortable and a good ride.
