Very nice 90 year old full size American violin and new case $2900 firm. It was suggested by a violin maker that I sell for $3500 because of the quality of the violin; it has a one-piece back, it is NOT a factory-made violin, and it is quite light. SO, my price is quite firm. CASH PREFERRED PLEASE.
This violin was made in 1920 by Harold A. Pinney in Rutland, Vermont. He is in Henyley's Universal Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers as well as The Violin Makers of the United States by Thomas James Wenberg with the following write-up:
Pinney, Harold A. Born 1894. Established at Plymouth (Vt). Made about 500 instruments up to the year 1942. Strad and Klotz modelling. Varnish of own formula, generally orange shade. Fine quality wood. Everything done to scientifically produce a highly responsive tone.
This violin has absolutely NO cracks (or repairs) in it. It is fitted with a new Superier Despiau bridge, Obligato strings with a gold gut Olive E string and new Wittner Ultra tail piece with built-in tuners for easy and fast fine-tuning. This violin is NOT an orange shade, but, the write-up did state that Harold (or, Harry to his friends) GENERALLY used an orange shade, NOT ALWAYS an orange shade. This violin is such an instance of him NOT using an orange shade. Good old Harry!
